The current situation with COVID-19 has compelled many business owners to pivot their business and work remotely. As a realtor, it is critical to stay on top of your hustle, stay productive and adapt appropriately. With children out of school and certain offices closed down, working from home and juggling life has become the new normal. We have put together some tips to optimize your days while you are working from home.
- Schedule Your Routine
We are huge advocates for creating a morning routine and prioritizing it every day. When you work remotely, the benefits of a scheduled routine only multiply.
Open your Google or Outlook calendars and use the time-blocking method. Don’t just schedule in meetings and deadlines. Schedule every aspect of your day, including breaks. Block off the time you wake up to when you get to work for your morning routine.
Then, schedule hours to work on different aspects of your business. Emails, outreach, paperwork, calls, etc. Since you do not have to account for commuting right now, use that time to invest in yourself. Schedule online learning to improve your skills.
- Get Outside
It is easy to get cabin fever when you work from home. Getting outside, stretching your legs, and breathing the fresh air is so important.
Each day, schedule time to go for a walk or run. Since most gyms are closed, you need to create your workouts. Book off time on your calendar each day for short walks and longer workouts. Take some time for yourself.
- Create Boundaries
It is important to establish boundaries for yourself and/or your family members while you are working from home. Setting rules, schedules and structure will assist in maintaining a level of normalcy and organization. For example, if you are time-blocking 10am to 12pm as work time, during that time, it is important for your family members to know that there is no interruption unless necessary and that you will be joining them for lunch at 12pm.
Boundaries will allow you to establish a good work flow and set expectations for your whole family.
- Increase Communication
Communication is the most important element during this time. Communication between yourself and your team (if you are on a real estate team), between yourself and your admin and also between yourself and your clients. Communication and keeping everyone informed will aid in relationship building, trust and loyalty.
For teams or admin staff, there are tools like Slack and Asana which are project management and communication resources that can make process more effective.
You will also want to set time for calls. Call your contacts and clients, check in on them, communicate and take this time to build rapport and trust.
Now is the time to double down on your efforts.
