Do you want to roll into work feeling powerful and ready to take on your day? The difference between a great day and a sluggish day is what you do in the morning.
Enter, The Morning Routine.
Entrepreneur Magazine recently published an article about how 16 different mega-successful entrepreneurs start their day. Warren Buffet reads. Richard Branson swims. Arianna Huffington meditates. Oprah hits the treadmill and meditates. If all these impressive people have morning routines, there’s clearly something to them.
Here are the top-three morning habits that I think you should consider adopting.
1. Early Rising
You have the same number of hours in your day as Beyoncé.
Productivity pros wake up before the sun and before everyone else in their households. Why? Put simply, there are only 24 hours in a day. After you get the eight you need for sleep, how are you going to spend the rest? By waking up early, you have time to practice your chosen morning routine activities in peace. It’s a block of time meant only for you and your needs. Then, once your needs are met, you can take on your clients’ needs.
There are dozens of effective morning routine habits you should consider. Try them out and see what works best for you. Try reading, studying a topic not related to work, spending time with pets, slowly eating breakfast, and even watching the news. Take advantage of your morning hours to do things that strengthen you, energize you, and enriches your life. Remember, you’re setting your mindset for the rest of your day.
2. Working Out
Someone busier than you is working out right now.
Research shows that people who workout before heading to the office are 21% more productive than those who don’t exercise in the morning. This is likely because working out creates energy, makes you feel empowered, and decreases stress. Study after study shows the positive effects of working out before you go to work. So, find a workout you enjoy and start building the habit. You could swim, walk, run, box, or do a HIIT workout. Whatever you choose, the key is doing it consistently.
3. Mindful Meditation
Live in the moment.
If Oprah does it, it’s got to work right? The truth is, mindful meditation has proven benefits. And it doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply doing a ten-minute guided meditation on the Calm app or Headspace app can do wonders for your mentality. If you want to be a strong decision-maker, work on your mental strength. Meditation is like weight-training your brain. Not only is it proven to decrease stress and anxiety, but meditation can also help you focus better during the day. That means more time spent on lead generating, deal closing and being the very best agent you can be for your clients.
